Number 10 – The Newfoundland Naming the massive Newfoundland on this particular TOP 10 list seems counter-intuitive, but think about it: Even though they look like fearsome Mastiffs, Newfoundlands have been bred to save people from drowning – and not to scare them half to death. They are the proverbial gentle giants and unparalleled in their love for children. Just imagine the comfort of having such an oversized teddy-bear around to snuggle up to! With their long, shaggy coats and their kind-hearted nature, Newfoundlands do make amazing family companions and snuggle-buddies. Number 9 – The Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier And on our number 9 spot, we have the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier. This beautiful Irish breed comes with a long and wavy wheaten-coloured coat. As its name suggests, the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier’s fur is soft and silky. And compared to most other Terrier breeds, this dog is less rambunctious and more easy-going, friendly and cheerful. Combined with its distinctly cute and cuddly appearance, these wonderful traits make the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier one of the TOP 10 cuddliest breeds on the planet. Number 8 – The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Rivalling the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier in terms of its soft and silky coat, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a picture-perfect snuggle-buddy. Despite all Spaniels being hunting breeds by tradition, the King Charles excels in the role of companion dog and even lapdog. Its slightly plump, soft little body and gentle temperament make it the perfect canine for the job: Comfortably fitting onto any sofa or armchair, this Spaniel will happily settle down on people’s laps for a nice nap. Number 7 – The Staffordshire Bull Terrier And here at number 7 on our list of the TOP 10 most cuddly dog breeds, we have the Staffy: Although a descendant of the ferocious bullfighting dogs of Britain, the sturdy Staffy is extremely affectionate and partial to cuddles. One of the best family companions in the world, this dog is the bully breed- equivalent of the Newfoundland when it comes to children: They are wonderfully patient with kids and many a Staffy can be found cuddling with their little human on the sofa. And whilst they cannot serve with a plush, silky coat, Staffies make warm and soft cuddle companions, which is why they absolutely deserve a spot on our list. Number 6 – The French Bulldog Our list would simply not be complete if we left the people-loving Frenchie out of it. Like the Staffy, this little Bulldog comes with a short coat. But this lack of snuggly fur is more than balanced out by the extremely affectionate nature of the Frenchy. Their small size is an added bonus, as it makes Frenchies well-suited for dwelling on people’s comfy furniture and on their laps for a good snuggle. Number 5 – The Cavapoo And the number 5 spot goes to a direct descendent of our number 8 pick, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - the Cavapoo. Whoever had the idea of crossing the Spaniel with a Toy or Miniature Poodle definitely had cuddly looks in mind: These adorable little fur-balls look like teddy-bears, and they come with a fun-loving, playful and sweet character. Just look at them: Who would not love to cuddle with one of those adorably fluffy canines? Number 4 – The Pomerian On our number 4 spot, we have a very popular toy breed – the Pomerian. With its friendly, cheerful disposition and its soft, plush coat, the Pomerian is the perfect canine companion for anyone wanting a cute lapdog. This adorable breed is descended from larger Spitz-type dogs – once the German farmers’ guard dogs of choice. Which explains why the fluffy Pomerian comes with the added benefit of being a good watchdog. Number 3 – The Bichon Frise And here we are, at the TOP 3 positions on our list of the TOP 10 most cuddly dog breeds in the world. The Bronze Medal goes to a small canine who looks more like a white powder puff than like a dog. The Bichon Frise is an embodiment of the attribute “cuddly”, which is why it has more than deserved our Bronze Medal Spot. As an added bonus, these white cotton balls are hypoallergenic and come with a sweet, playful nature. And a small-enough size to comfortably fit on people’s laps. Number 2 – The Shih Tzu Now, here we are at our second spot on the pedestal – the prestigious Silver Medal position. So, who has managed to conquer the second top spot among the TOP 10 cuddliest dog breeds of the canine world? The ancient Chinese breed whom we have awarded the Silver Medal is truly irresistible in its charm: One look into a Shi Tzu’s soulful eyes makes powerful men melt like butter. With their long flowing coats, the former palace pets are a joy to behold - and to have around, as they truly are as sweet as they look: Friendly, playful and extremely friendly. Number 1 – The Portuguese Waterdog And now, we come to the absolute top-spot on our list of extremely cuddly canines. The Gold Medal goes to yet another breed owned by members of the ruling class – in this case, former US-President Obama and his family. We are speaking about the medium sized Portuguese Waterdog. These furballs are wonderfully kind and playful dogs who absolutely adore snuggling with their humans. As their name suggests, they love water almost as much as they love people. Portuguese Waterdogs are fun companions, perfectly suited for active families – such as the Obama family. Their beautiful coats – curly or wavy in structure - are soft and cuddly. Together with their extremely friendly character and affectionate disposition, this snuggly appearance has made the Portuguese Waterdog THE TOP CUDDLIEST DOG BREED IN THE WORLD.
